Artist of the month - January 2016: Nomuzi Moozlie Mabena

Nomuzi Mabena, fondly known as "Moo-zlie" is a young lady from Benoni, a small suburb east of Johannesburg. Her unique look, quick wit and bubbly personality won her the MTV Base VJ Search, as she beat out thousands of young hopefuls for the number one spot.

Nomuzi also had a short run on an internet radio station called "Rhythm 100" with a weekly radio show entitled "The Lipgloss Diaries", which became popular amongst many females in and around Johannesburg.

Nomuzi is very comfortable in front of a crowd and quite often MC/hosts parties/events around Africa & is also known for her iconic fashion sense that is influential in the African urban youth culture.

In September 2014 Nomuzi announced during an interview with sowetan.co.za that she was writing music for her own album to come out in the future, and that she was listening to beats by local producers.

Since then, we have heard a couple of chart-topping singles featuring her, released mostly during 2015. Two of the singles "Seven" and "Dont Panic" collectively by end of December 2015 had received over 750 000 downloads.

The first single "Seven" was so successful that we saw her go on a 25 show country tour with Kid X, who is also her boyfriend and stablemate from Cashtime Life.

Towards the end of 2015 the Skhanda Queen was earning R50 000 per show as she embarked on a 20 show country tour with DJ Speedsta, their tour will end in February 2016.

When asked about when her album will drop and who is gonna be on it, she says that we should look out for something big to feature artists like Stella Mwangi, WizKid, AKA, K.O ,MA-E , Bongani Fassie and many more.

2016 will definitely be the year Moozlie breaks all music records and boundaries.

She has made over 20 music video appearances and is still going strong as MTV VJ.

Nomuzi is a brand that attracts high-end endorsements, in 2014 - 2015 she earned over R250 000 from endorsements, sources have speculated that her Skhanda Queen apparels will be distributed in 2016 exclusively through a partnership with Woolworths South Africa.
